NEWS DESK– Russia responded to the expulsion of diplomats from Britain against the background of the poisoning case of Russian-British double, and decided to expel 23 British diplomats and declared them “undesirable.”
“Twenty-three British diplomats in Moscow have been declared undesirable persons in the country and are demanding that they leave Russia within a week,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Russian Foreign Ministry also announced that Moscow was withdrawing its approval for the opening of a British consulate in St. Petersburg and confirmed that it had issued a decision to suspend the activities of British Council in the Russian Federation.
Relations between the two countries have been strained following the discovery of a Russian- British double agent poisoned client with his daughter in Britain. The latter accused Russia of using nerve gas to poison the agent and took several measures against Russia.
